6th grade Agriculture students learned to "put up" peas this week compliments of the Pontotoc County Adult Detention Center. Pontotoc County Inmates prepare several plots of land, plant various vegetables, harvest them, and prepare them for the freezer for future use. This year, the inmates "put up" 2500 gallons of peas. This will feed the inmates for two years. The peas we received were left over due to lack of space to freeze more at the facility. Thanks to the county inmates, our students experienced the process of "putting up peas" from cleaning, to blanching, and preparing to put in bags for the freezer.
