PMS Ag Classes Plant Vegetables
(2/28): Students in Mrs. Whitworth and Mrs. Swain's Agriculture classes planted vegetables this week. Big Beef Tomatoes, Better Boy Tomatoes, Celebrity Tomatoes, and Cherry Tomatoes are their favorites to grow. They sprout rather quickly. Students have a digital Garden Journal where they record what they plant, when they plant, and what conditions are prime for the plant. They also record each week in their garden journal the data obtained from measuring, watering, and caring for the plant. Cayenne Peppers, Jalapeno Peppers, Cabbage, English Peas, Habanero Peppers, ChickPeas, Basil, Turnip Greens, Radishes, Cucumbers and Bunching Onions have been planted by the Ag classes, as well. In August, these same students used what last year's students planted to have salads, salsa, and so much more. More herbs will be planted soon, as well as melons, squash, and zucchini. Our Farm to Table program , which includes caring for the chickens and using their eggs, has educated so many students on how to care for plants and animals and to produce their own food. This is still a very important skill to have.
