(11/17): As part of our Kindness campaign we are having a “Can Food Drive” and these items will be donated to our local food pantry. Fifth grade students have currently contributed more canned goods than sixth grade. This is ongoing until December 15. Let's see how many carts we can fill with these canned goods!

(11/17): PMS is full of thankful hearts. The students wrote reasons that they are thankful and teachers displayed all the reasons on the turkey. PMS admin showed various ways of gratitude toward teachers and staff this week. On Friday, they prepared pancakes and sausage because no one stacks up to PMS teachers! Teachers are thankful for our appreciative leaders.

(11/17): Students in Mrs. Brumley's fifth grade science class have been learning the effects of forces on various objects during our science lab this week.
They also have been using friction (various materials) to slow down our toy cars.

(11/15): Enjoying the weather while learning!! Mrs. Tutor's sixth grade ELA focus group completed a carousel outside by answering assessment questions. We have been working on test taking strategies, so they are using what they have learned to answer the questions.

(11/14): Ms. Swain and Mrs. Whitworth's Science classes take supporting and reinforcing ELA seriously! Our unit currently is Human Body Systems. Students read an article as an introduction and created a summary of the article based on the TAAMIO strategy. Using strategies such as this one gives the student a tool to remember and be successful when tackling ELA concepts. We often get the statement, "I thought this was Science class!!" We simply respond with, "Scientists must be able to read, analyze, synthesize texts in order to know and understand the accomplishments of past scientists and explain their own theories and discoveries." Our students are thinking like SCIENTISTS!

(11/13): Mrs. Whitworth's Ag class has given themselves a weekly chore: PMS: KEEPING IT CLEAN. Ag students in Ms. Swain, Mrs. Hitt, Mrs. Richardson, and Mrs. Whitworth's classes work hard to make the campus a beautiful environment, so we decided that in order to make it really welcoming and beautiful to passersby, parents, students, staff, and the community, we should designate a day to keep it clean. Each group races to get the most in their trash bag.
Chicken Check: Chickens love dust baths. Our hens have gotten into the habit of creating a hole near the fence to sit and take a dust bath. A raccoon was able to grab 3 of our hens because of this. SOOOO, we knew we had to provide more to entertain them. They love to scratch in hay, so since it is getting colder weather, Ms. Swain and Mrs. Whitworth's Ag students are winterizing the coop and pen. Mrs. Swain's students placed a temporary reinforcement near those dust bath holes until we can reinforce it permanently. Lots of things going on in AG!

(11/13): Mrs. Whitworth's Science class enjoyed working outside at the outdoor classroom. Learning Body Systems is a lot more fun outdoors!

(11/9): Pontotoc Middle School Junior Beta Club invitations were delivered to students today. The deadline to bring back the money for the membership will be November 30th. We cannot take any money after that deadline.
The induction ceremony will be announced later.

(11/9): Thank you to Mr. James Shannon from our local Mississippi State Extension Office for teaching us about the PREP STEP program. This program is designed to prep and prepare us to be ready in case of an emergency. After our lesson, we practiced the PREP STEP dance!
