Racing Hearts and Body Systems in Action!

(11/19): Sixth grade science class turned into a mini biology lab and a mini gym as students began learning about how their body systems work together. They got their hearts racing—literally—by running in place and then checking their pulses. The challenge? To figure out which body systems were teaming up during the activity.
From their cardiovascular system pumping blood, to their respiratory system gulping air, to their muscular system powering every jump and step, students pieced together the amazing interconnectedness of their bodies.
Encourage your young scientist to explain what happens to their body when they exercise. Just be warned: you might be asked to check your own pulse!

Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans Challenge

(11/19): Our young sixth grade scientists embarked on a deliciously daring challenge: solving a Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans Dichotomous Key! (Yes, they ate a few along the way—bravery points to those who dared to taste "Earthworm.")
Using their keen observation skills and the trusty "yes-or-no" questions of the key, students identified flavors from classic to the downright bizarre (looking at you, "Sausage"). It was a lesson in critical thinking, teamwork, and the power of precise descriptions.
Highlights included debates over whether a bean was "lime green" or "neon green" (spoiler: it matters!) and the triumphant discovery that even the most mysterious beans—like "Grass"—could be unraveled with the right questions.
