(1/13): Our sixth-grade scientists recently dove into classification by learning how to use a dichotomous key—and they did it in a fun (and flavorful!) way using Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans. Students carefully observed the beans’ characteristics, such as color, speckles, and patterns, and followed a series of either/or choices to correctly identify each “mystery” bean.
This hands-on activity helped students see how scientists classify living things by making careful observations and logical decisions. Along the way, they practiced critical thinking, teamwork, and scientific vocabulary—all while staying highly engaged. Learning science has never been so sweet (or so smelly, depending on the flavor)!

(1/13): Sixth-grade computer science students are exploring new ways to code using the micro:bit and MakeCode. By programming these small but powerful devices, students are creating interactive projects while strengthening their understanding of coding concepts, problem-solving, and logical thinking. This hands-on experience allows students to apply their skills in creative and engaging ways as they continue to grow as young programmers.
