5th Grade Science Studies Newton's Law
(10/31): Mrs. Brumley's 5th grade science classes have been studying how Newton's laws apply to everyday life. They then decided that they were ready to see these scientific laws in action. They began by planning to build cars within a given list of constraints. They were given a budget with play money, and had to purchase their materials from the classroom workshop. Their car had to successfully roll down a ramp and head-on into the classroom wall. During the trial runs the passenger in their car was their choice of 6 dare-devil eggs. For the final test their passenger was one of several raw eggs. The ultimate goal for this passenger to survive the crash. Students worked together to practice solving addition and subtraction of decimal math problems as well, while determining if they had enough budget to finish their build, how much they needed to pay the cashier, and how much change they should get back. It's been a busy, fun, and very educational week.
