(9/27): The fifth grade students in Ag class made fruit kabobs for their first time 'cooking'. They sliced bananas, strawberries, blueberries and grapes then layered them on a skewer. They have recently made chocolate covered marshmallows with sprinkles, chocolate chip cookies and brownies. All of the students love cooking days!

(9/27): Mrs. Ritchie, our counselor, went into classrooms this week and discussed the
counselor 's role, goal setting, types of counseling, and motivation tips.
The students were grouped and performed an ice breaker activity.
They worked together and collaborated with thought provoking questions to
get to know each other better.

(9/26): Ms. Swain and Mrs. Whitworth’s 6th Grade Science classes learned how yeast makes bread rise by conducting a yeast explosion experiment. They found out that as decomposers, yeast must be fed. Once the yeast is activated by warm water and has eaten the sugar, it lets off carbon dioxide which filled the balloon causing it to rise much like bread! We only had one explosion though! Whew!

(9/26): Mrs. Whitworth's Agriculture class has been very busy these past two weeks. They picked (and ate) pears from their orchard in the hollow behind the central office after they weeded around the pear, apple, and fig trees. The pears were divine!! They also learned how to cut an orange 3 ways gourmet style! Then they picked vegetables from their garden, gathered eggs from the 18 hens to sell to cover the cost of feed and other needs of the animals. Caring for the chickens and the rabbits is a daily chore; however, they all love it. This next week will be just as busy!!!

(9/26): Students at Pontotoc Middle are encouraged to turn off the lights and air conditioners before they leave each day. These posters and stickers on the walls are reminders to be energy savers!

(9/26): Sixth grade band students gave a stellar performance at the PHS football game on Friday night. They have practiced many hours for those songs. You did a great job, Warriors!

(9/23): 6th Grade Gifted Students learn the ART of Sketch-noting for note-taking!
We all learn differently, and introducing kids to multiple approaches to meet their learning preferences is a great start! Sketch-noting helps both kids and adults to synthesize information in a visual way, giving them an opportunity to have conversation with -and actively make connections with their notes!

(9/21): We're excited to share that our school is participating in School Uplift, a program from TVA EnergyRight®. This yearlong program is designed to help the school save energy, make our space more comfortable and reduce energy costs.
Everyone will have a role in helping us meet our energy-reduction goals by learning about and practicing energy-saving behaviors. We have an Energy Team led by our very own Energy Champions, 5th & 6th grade gifted students, who will be our on-site point of contact for all things School Uplift.
This is an incredible opportunity for us. Our energy choices make a huge impact on our total school expenses each year. Past School Uplift participants have saved up to $40,000 in energy costs! Our goal this year is to reduce our energy use by between 5-10%.

(9/20): Pontotoc City School District will hold its annual Title 1 Parent Night meeting on Monday, September 26, at 5:30 in PJH auditorium. A guest speaker will address Mental Health Awareness. TVA Energy Right Program will be discussed by Pontotoc Middle students at the meeting.
