Fifth Grade Explores Courage and History in Novel

(8/27): Mr. Anderson’s fifth graders have been reading Number the Stars, a powerful story set during World War II. After completing the novel, students took an Accelerated Reader (AR) test to check their comprehension and reflect on the book’s themes. The story has sparked meaningful discussions about courage, friendship, and history, while also helping students grow as thoughtful and independent readers.

When Reading Erupts with Excitement

(8/26): Mrs. Corley’s fifth grade students are diving into an exciting novel study with I Survived the Eruption of Mount St. Helens. Through this book, students are building reading comprehension skills, expanding vocabulary, and making connections to history and science. The adventure of the story is keeping readers engaged while also sparking great classroom discussions.

(8/22): This week, our students shined by showing respect, kindness, and responsibility in and out of the classroom. Their positive choices and strong character set a wonderful example for others and make our school community stronger.

Coming Soon: PMS Book Fair

(8/18): The Scholastic Book Fair will be arriving soon at PMS. Students and teachers are excited for the new book selections, posters, and other items. The book fair will be September 22 - 26 with Family Night being on Thursday, 9/25 from 4-6 pm.

The Great Cup Collapse of 6th Grade!

(8/22): Today in science, sixth grade students put Sir Isaac Newton’s first law of motion to the ultimate test with our Inertia Towers Challenge. Using stacks of cups, note cards, and a little teamwork, students discovered that objects at rest really do like to stay at rest—until someone yanks a card out from under them!
From slow-motion suspense to epic cup crashes, every group learned how balance, motion, and gravity teamed up to create some dramatic (and hilarious) results. Newton may have lived in the 1600s, but his science definitely rocked our classroom today!

PMS Students Cheering on Warriors

(8/22): Pontotoc Middle School students showed their Warrior pride by cheering on the football team in bold black and gold. With faces painted and energy high, they came together to support the Warriors under the Friday night lights.

(8/20): Mrs. Brumley’s fifth grade science students explored properties of matter using household items. They had lots of fun discovering about solubility texture, color, particle size, odor, etc..

Meet the PMS Counselor

(8/22): PMS Counselor, Mrs. Betsy Ritchie, greets our students with a smile. She has a deep passion and concern for our students. She visits the classrooms throughout the year to discuss goals, mental health, and conflict resolution among peers.

PMS Students Redeeming Coupons

(8/18): PMS students in Mrs. Emison's fifth grade math class redeemed their coupons for great prizes last week. Students who had two or less codes for the week got a reward of their choice. They got to choose from chew gum in class, work anywhere in class, sit in rolly chair, or more; but the favorites were lunch with a bud, sit where you want, and a new lead pencil. Thanks Mrs. Emison for encouraging positive behavior during the first week of school!
